More info
I had hemmed and hawed about posting this.
Dooney's, a neighbourhood staple, has recently been sold to first time restaurant owner, Marnie Goldlust.
She has come into this with NO previous restaurant experience, and specifically NO kitchen or food experience.
I worked for 3 days in the kitchen at Dooney's before I was phoned and told I wasn't a fit for the restaurant. I then chased them around for a week to be told that there would be NO compensation for this "trial period".
I worked 5 hours the first day, 5 hours the next and 4 hours my last day. The compensation I received was: one glass of water, 2 pepsis and one gingerale/cranberry juice.
Now you may think that this is the ranting of one disgruntled person, but it's not just that. I was brought in to replace the cook who quit upon the sale of the business. The cook who was and is there and is staying and has been there for 14 years has NO idea that whomever they hire will be replacing him.
There is NO staff dinner. Staff are made to purchase meals. At a discount.
It's not only illegal NOT to pay someone for their work, it's highly unethical. And to wait a week to call me to tell me that is BULLSHIT.
Stay away from Dooney's.
