As most folks know, Gibson production in the 80s could be a bit spotty. I’m often not a huge fan of those guitars but this one seems to be an exception. Plays great, sounds great. Looks great!

Tobacco Sunburst is not the most common finish for these guitars in the early 80's and it has aged really nicely. This one appears to be All original. It sports original gold-plated Tim Shaw humbuckers (Bridge reads 7.4 Ohms with the neck at 7.3 ohms). Original toggle switch, black barrel speed knobs and wiring along with gold plated Tune-o-matic bridge, stop tail piece, Posi-strap locks and Schaller “Speed winder” tuners.

This guitar has a solid, one-piece (no-pancake) mahogany body, 3 piece maple top and 3 piece maple neck with ebony fingerboard (no volute). Serial Number indicates an early January 83’ build so it was likely one of the last of these to get the maple neck prior to the transition back to mahogany. This neck has an comfortable, fast C neck shape with tonnes of resonance and sustain. The back of the neck is in great shape with little to no wear and feels smooth, allowing your hand to glide up and down the neck with ease. The guitar appears to have never been re-fretted and still has the binding nibs. Guitar is recently setup with a set of 9-32’s and the frets have been dressed. The truss rod is fully functioning.

There is some typical play wear, checking and discolouration (mainly binding) on the guitar but it has certainly been very well taken care of. The back has no pronounced buckle rash. There is a small hairline crack on the top cap between the two sets of speed knobs (which has been glued and repaired). Also, the plastic neck pickup cover has one small crack but is fully intact. Neither effect the playability of the guitar, of course. Total body weight comes in at 10.25 lbs with no weight relief. It comes as shown with the original Gibson Chainsaw case.
