Rare, Original Canadian, Historical, Racialized Black Advertising Card, marked, 'Compliments of Parker's Dye Works', #46, by the Toronto Lithographing Company ('Toronto Litho Co'), c1885-89, 4.45” x 2.95”, with wear, & corner chip.
This card, depicting despicable racism, was probably to commemorate the company's (founded by Thomas Parker in 1876) move a few blocks south from its original location, on the west side of Yonge St., north of Davenport Road by Thomas's son, Robert, who had taken over the business. This new east side location of the business on Yonge St., was eventually, the site of the Toronto Reference Public Library at 789 Yonge St., Toronto.
On verso of card is marked, 'R. Parker & Co., Dyers and Cleaners!, Head Office and Works:, 787 to 791 Yonge Street., ---- City Offices: 209 Yonge Street, 59 King Street West, 475 Queen Street West, 277 Queen Street East, 1267 Queen Street West,
Toronto. -----. 6 John Street North, Hamilton., 40 George Street, Brantford., 217 Dundas Street, London., 6 Ontario Street, St. Catharines., 5 Imperial Block, Galt. ----------, Ladies' and Gents' Wearing Apparel of all Kinds, Ostrich Plumes, etc., Cleaned and Dyed.'
