Original Canadian Sepia Carte de Visite (CDV) of Ge orge B rown (1818-1880), one of the key Fathers of Confederation, & Founder of the, The Globe (now The Globe & Mail), marked in the front border, c1870's, 3.9” x 2.30”, in very good condition.
He was the founder and editor of the Toronto Globe (now the The Globe & Mail) in 1844, Premier of Canada West (1858), played a leadership role in the founding of the Liberal Party in 1867, & appointed senator in 1874. Helping unite Canada, he was one of the instrumental Fathers of the Confederation. His daughters from his marriage to Anne Nelson, Margaret & Catherine, were two of the first women to graduate from the University of Toronto in 1885.
The photograph was possibly from Notman & Fraser, one of the prominent photographers of their day.
