Original Art Deco Life Magazine with Colour Illustrated Cover of Two Young Japanese Women with one in traditional Kimono Dress, & the other in Western Dress Holding a Cigarette in a Cigarette Holder with Japanese Hieroglyphs on the left, Illustrated, Vol. 80, No. 2075, Life, 598 Madison, New York City, N.Y., August 10, 1922, 11 1/8” x 8.35”, clean pages, with wear including vertical middle crease; front cover - light creases, right border middle tear (.3”), faint postmark stamp; & bottom edge losses; back cover middle border 1/4” tear (plus pgs. 29-32 middle border tears); corner crease on pgs. 1 & 2, large bottom tear on pgs. 7 & 8, middle 2 page partial separation.
Cover art by Rea Irvin (1881-1972).
Contents include many references to Japan, including a letter from the Prime Minister of Japan, Count Kato Takaaki (1860-1926); Japanese art from 1822, & 1922 in Kyoto; 'A Japanese Handbook of America'; 'An Auction, The Psycho-Salesmanship of Japanese Prints'; two page centerspread art titled, 'Hands across the Pacific', between the U.S. & Japan, possibly by Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944), the editor & owner of Life Magazine, etc..
There is art on the Japanese by Ralph Waldo Emerson Barton (1891-1931), & Charles Baskerville (1896-1994), as well as cartoon art by Percy Lee Crosby (1891-1964) – Skippy; Walter J. Enright (1879-1969), Ellison Bernard Hoover (1888-1955), Gardner Rea (1894-1966), John Robert Shaver (1867-1949), John Held Jr. (1889-1958), etc..
