Corinne Anita Loos, born in California, was a successful, & prolific screenwriter, playwright and author. She became the first female staff scriptwriter in Hollywood when D.W. Griffith put her on the payroll at Triangle Film Corporation. She is best known for her 1925 novel, Gentleman Prefer Blondes that was made into the classic movie starring Marilyn Monroe, as well as her 1951 Broadway adaptation of Colette's novella, Gigi.
She writes with wit, insight, candor, & such elan, that the book is never boring. She lived a full life in the Golden Age of Hollywood, having known an eclectic mixture of people from many different fields, writers, actors, film directors, artists, & scientists. In addition to the ones mentioned above, her encounters include Coco Chanel, H. L. Mencken, Cecil Beaton, Christopher Isherwood, Lillian Gish, Eddie Duchin, Irving Thalberg, Greta Garbo, & F. Scott Fitzgerald & his wife, Zelda. And illustrated art works include ones by Jack Yeats, Don Bachardy, Cecil Beaton, Emmet Kelly.
