1876 Canada Large Cent
VF-30
$9

The 1876 Canada Large Cent is a fascinating piece of history. The obverse features a bust of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem in her hair, while the reverse showcases a serpentine motif of 16 maple leaves with a beaded circle. The denomination “ONE CENT” is also inscribed. All 1876 1-cent circulation coins have an “H” mintmark (Heaton Mint) under the date. Made of 95% copper, 4% tin, and 1% zinc. The coin weighs 5.67 grams. Measures 25.4 mm. Double T and A: The T in “VICTORIA” and the second A in “Canada” are repunched. Repunched last A of Gratia: Another variety to look out for. Approximately 4,000,000 circulation coins were produced. These large cents were minted during a time of transition, and their historical significance adds to their allure.
