The 1911 Newfoundland 50-Cent coin features a portrait of King George V, facing left. The Latin lettering on the obverse reads: GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND:IMP, which translates to “George V, By the grace of God, King and Emperor of the Indies.” The reverse displays the face value and year of issue within a decorative circle, with the inscription “NEWFOUNDLAND 50 CENTS 1911 C”. The coin is made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, weighs 11.78 grams, and has a diameter of 29.85 mm. Its edge is reeded. The obverse design was derived from a model by Sir E.B. MacKennal, and the reverse design is the same as that used for Edward VII coins.
