The 2004 Canada $2 Silver Coin, also known as the “Toonie,” features a design that pays homage to the Canadian Arctic. Approximately 12,908,000 coins were minted in 2004. Outer Ring: 100% nickel. Core: 92% copper, 6% aluminum, and 2% nickel. Weight: 7.3 grams. Obverse (Front): The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The design was created by Susanna Blunt and Susan Taylor. Reverse (Back): The reverse showcases a polar bear, the “King of the North,” reigning over the ice-packed Canadian Arctic. The reverse design was created by Brent Townsend and Ago Aarand. The edge of the coin has a spline interrupted pattern. There were limited-edition sterling silver versions of the 2004 $2 coin, such as the 2004 Canada Limited Edition Sterling Silver $2 Coin & Stamp Set featuring the proud polar bear. This set includes a proof coin and two $2 stamps, celebrating the majestic Arctic bear.
