The 2005 U.S. Quarter Dollar coins are part of the 50 State Quarters Program, a wildly popular initiative that ran from 1999 to 2008. In 2005, five unique state designs were released: California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. Each coin features a state-specific reverse design and a common obverse. Obverse (Front) Design: Portrait: George Washington, designed by John Flanagan (1932), with modifications by William Cousins. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. LIBERTY. IN GOD WE TRUST. QUARTER DOLLAR. Mint Mark: Located to the right of Washington’s ponytail (P, D, or S).
