Original Painted Wooden (Pine) Sliding Lid Box, with Haida Symbols of Salmon, attributed probably to Clarence A. Wells, an Indigenous artist, Gitxsan (Gitsan) Clan of the Tsimshian (Tsimpshien), British Columbia, 18 3/4” L x 6 3/4” W x 2” H, with scrape on far right side.
Clarence A. Wells, was born in Port Alberni, B.C. Won a National Art Design Award, & moved to Vancouver in 1965, where he attended the Langara Campus of Vancouver Community College for four years, with an emphasis on art. He is an internationally renowned artist whose Haida style paintings are often painted onto hand-crafted boxes, other household items.
