Vintage, Original Multi-Coloured Ceramic Bowl, featuring, ' Hope', Harp, Leaf Designs, & marked on the bottom, 'Lenox, American by Design, Vintage Jubilee by Alice Drew', 4.85” x 2 1/4”, in excellent condition, with no discernable issues.
The 'Alice Drew' designs were discontinued by Lenox.
Lenox was founded by Walter Scott Lenox in 1889, when he opened the Ceramic Art Company, a small studio with a few artists hand-painting ivory china, & became Lenox Incorporated in 1906. Lenox became the first American china to be used in the White House in 1918. It is considered the most prestigious American maker of tableware, & last significant manufacturer of bone china until it closed the company's only remaining American factory in 2020.
Alice Drew is a full time studio potter, who was educated in studio art from Houghton College in 2000, & her M.F.A. in ceramics from Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) At The School for American Crafts in 2003. She was a professor of art at Roberts Wesleyan College from 2006-2011.
Her work is inspired by the bold, rich colours and patterns of damask & brocade fabrics, nature, & architectural details.
