Original Canadian Artwork, Titled, 'The Happy Pals New Orleans party orchestra' by Stefan Berg, B.F.A. (O.C.A.D.U.), limited edition linocut, 41/50, Signed in graphite, by the artist, all members of the Jazz group, & Justin Labine, B.F.A. (O.C.A.D.U.), the printer, Dated, 2006, 17 3/4” x 14”, in excellent condition.
It's noted, that the artwork, that captures the dynamic frenzy of the musicians, is on deckled edged rag paper, 'printed on a proof press, end street studio'. It was “sold at the Grossman's Tavern during the Happy Pals' gigs.”*
“The Happy Pals New Orleans Party Orchestra is a seven-piece jazz band based in Toronto Canada, playing authentic old-time New Orleans party music. They've been featured every Saturday at Toronto's legendary Grossman's Tavern for over thirty years, and have attracted literally generations of fans. The Happy Pals play swinging, rocking tunes you can dance, sing or just hang out to - pop standards, blues, hymns, marches, Dixieland, calypso, Rock'n'Roll, you name it! Tunes by Kid Thomas, King Oliver, Fats Domino, George Lewis, Johnny Cash, Glenn Miller, Hank Williams, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and more!”**
The signatures of the band members include, Patrick Tevlin, trumpet & vocal; Toby Hughes, alto saxophone; Roberta Tevlin, trombone & vocal; Roberta Hunt, piano & vocal; Rainer Hunck, banjo; Philip J. Carney, bass; Chuck Clarke, drums & vocal.
Stefan Berg received a B.F.A. from the Ontario College of Art, Design, University (O.C.A.D.U.) in 2008, along with the Soloman Painting Award and Eric Freifeld Award. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe, & featured in the Globe & Mail, the Toronto Star, and the Telegram Journal. He is based in Toronto.
Raised in Timmins, Ontario, Justin Labine received a scholarship to attend the O.C.A.D.U. in 2000,*** where he graduated in 2005. He currently runs Free North Press, specializing in linocuts, out of Toronto.
