Part-Time Private Chef (Culinary Student / Recent Grad) (Jane and Annette (Baby Point))

compensation: $25 / hour (Paid per hour, commensurate with experience)
employment type: part-time
experience level: entry level
job title: Part-Time Private Chef (Culinary Student / Recent
Role and Responsibilities:

We're looking for a part-time private chef to prepare healthy and nutritious meals for our family, primarily dinners. This role is perfect for a culinary student or recent grad looking for hands-on experience with flexible working hours. The role involves approximately 8-12 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Weekly Menu Planning: Spend 1-2 hours each week planning the menu and a weekly cooking plan. This can be done remotely via email, text, or phone and should finalized by Saturday morning each week. The focus should be on a wide variety of cuisines using fresh, healthy, and diverse ingredients. We're looking for lots of plant-based meals (but not exclusively). Menu should be designed so meals can be adapted for our young children while still being interesting and tasty for the adults.

Grocery Shopping: Independently purchase all necessary ingredients for the week's meals. Focus on fresh and (where possible) local produce. Keep track of the pantry and proactively restock items when they run low.

Meal Prep & Cooking: Dedicate 6-8 hours on Sunday to shop, prepare, and cook meals for the week. This will involve preparing some meals to be ready to assemble and cook ourselves, while other meals will be pre-cooked and stored for easy reheating. All meals should have clear instructions provided. Occasionally a second afternoon of work (2-4 hours of shopping and meal prep) may be necessary - for example if one of us is travelling for work and extra help is needed.

Kitchen Management: Maintain a clean and organized kitchen space, including washing all dishes and kitchen tools used during the session.

Menu, work hours and responsibilities will be reviewed and discussed weekly.

What We're Looking For:

Someone who is easy to communicate with, friendly, and reliable. Comfortable around kids and a busy household.
A person who thoroughly enjoys cooking and collaborating on the menu and weekly plan.
Experience with healthy and nutritious meal preparation, with a focus on plant based, vegetarian or pescatarian dishes.
Comfortable accommodating specific dietary needs, such as a dairy allergy.
Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a culinary arts program.
Must have a valid food handler's certification.

Compensation:
Hourly Wage: Paid per hour, commensurate with experience.
Expenses: All grocery costs will be reimbursed separately.

How to Apply:
Please send your resume, a brief cover letter outlining your experience and why you are interested in this role. Would love to see a sample menu you might create for our family.

About Our Family:
Food is the foundation of family.

We're a family of four in the Baby Point neighbourhood at Jane and Annette in Toronto, with two young kids, aged 10 months and 2.5 years. Both my wife and I work full-time, and while we enjoy cooking, we're looking for someone to help with our weekly meal prep. We have an appreciation for wholesome food and are looking for a reliable and friendly individual who can fit in with our family and has a passion for creating healthy, delicious meals.

We are a pescatarian family, but we do serve our children meat, mostly chicken. Our 2.5-year-old has a dairy allergy that have almost outgrown.
