Offering a LARGE solid Cedar Chest from the West Branch Novelty Co
All original hardware including lock and key.
"Streamlined interior" including quadrant hinges, designed to allow an airtight seal. Many other special features highlighted in certificate of authenticity under lid.
A few scratches/marks consistent with normal wear & tear. Some minor cracks in the lacquer finish on lid. One of the legs rotates freely along it's metal pin attachment point but is attached and just needs glue where the surfaces mate together.
If you are buying it and want this glued or even want the surfaces sanded, I can complete these tasks. All easy fixes. For now, I have left these sml issues alone as the experts suggest most buyers want completely authentic unaltered items.
No major issues, structurally very sturdy, no cracks in wood, no rust, lid interlocks together as tightly and smoothly as day one.
Price reflects the minor issues I have highlighted.
I believe this chest is what is known as "True Vintage" (technically NOT an antique) as my stepfather obtained it in the 1970's. I have included a photo of the number burned into the bottom panel: "204 609", but have not been able to find any more information on it.
Owned within one family, from clean, pet and smoke free homes. Used mostly to store pillow and wool HudsonBay blankets.
This is a LARGER than normal chest, perhaps can be used as a coffee table. Also, with feet removed can be mounted lengthwise to a wall with French-cleats and used as a small closet to hang and keep safe family heirlooms. (or mounted in a closet for an airtight and lockable cabinet.
Looking for a worthy new owner to take on stewardship of this fine piece.
Priced to sell at $399
Can't buy this quality new anymore and couldn't even buy the stabilized cedar panels this large to make your own chest from scratch for this price.
