The Federal Glass Company, founded in Columbus, OH in 1900, started its operations making pressed glass with mold-etched patterns. The company was a leader in producing what is commonly referred to as Depression glass. By the 1920s, Federal Glass was well known for its glassware, barware and unique glass items for the home. Its hallmark is an F inside a shield and is located on the bottoms of most of its glassware. Many glassware designers chose blank Federal glasses for overlaying their designs as they were structurally appealing and plentiful. Over the years, the company sold millions of manufactured glass pieces and operated plants in Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. While prolific, Federal Glass closed its operations in 1980.
