Whether you're looking for advanced German conversation practice or you're just starting to learn German, read on!
More than 25 years experience as a teacher of German at college and university, a Masters Degree in German Literature and Art, doctoral research in Medieval German Literature and Art as a Fulbright scholar in Munich, translator (including two published books from German into English) plus a well-traveled German enthusiast--these suggest my particular qualifications as your new "German Coach."
Instruction is conveniently online using Facetime or Skype at the rate of Can$40 per 45 minute lesson, or if you prefer an hour long lesson, the rate is Can$50, with payments securely processed through PayPal, Zelle, Venmo or other easy payment methods. (There's a reduction for multiple lessons within the week; two one-hour-long lessons are Can$90, and two 45-minute lessons are Can$78.) If you'd prefer "online immersion German," we'll schedule two hours at a time for Can$90 rather than one hour twice a week.
For advanced students, if you wish to zero in just on conversation, then that is what we'll do. We'll also spend time focusing on various topics of interest and accompanying vocabulary you might not yet know.
For those of you not looking just for advanced conversation, in addition to using (free!) material produced by the Goethe-Institute, I like to include in my online instruction one of three books, depending on your level:
1) If you are new to the German language, or perhaps have already studied a year or so but would like some reinforcement of basic grammar and vocabulary, we'll use a book readily available online for approximately Can$21.00 intended for beginner through intermediate levels. We'll also make use of short readings and helpful dialogues. An excellent workbook is highly recommended.
2)Early intermediate, intermediate or advanced level: we also ave the option of using German short stories as a basis for discussion to help you move on to more advanced vocabulary and constructions. But if you need to review some basics you've forgotten, we can do that too!
My students' abilities to express themselves in German increase rapidly. Their enthusiasm for developing a new language plus a growing familiarity with a new culture results in exciting prospects that go hand in hand with that new adventure. For students who have had any German at all previously, I request a very brief email, even just a few sentences, written about themselves in German in order to give an idea where we should begin at our first lesson or perhaps what we need to review. If you're a beginner, during the first lesson we'll begin with learning to pronounce and understand some basic, very useful phrases, and also begin understanding a dialog you'll have been emailed. For intermediate students, we'll begin with "warming up" with conversational German, and then turn our attention to the initial pages in our book.
Whether you want to improve your German speaking and listening fluency, your German reading capability, or your "German for Travelers" for an approaching trip, one-on-one German instruction is a value you won't beat, and your confidence in your language proficiency will improve quickly!
