One of the most interesting innovations in the drumming world was Premier's iconic Project One snare drum. Project One snares feature a very thick (1.5", see pic 1) chambered shell with a large mic port for enhanced projection and articulation, making it an excellent choice for both Live & Studio. It was originally advertised as the perfect live drum because this feature was implemented to prevent mic bleed from the hihat, but obviously great for Studio use too.
What is the difference in sound with the mic in the side port compared to the top? Good demonstration in this 5-minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDkSM93KBVs
The Project One snare was short lived, not many manufactured, but a very cool design, rare & highly sought after, a piece of drum history. This one is still 100% functional, excellent condition, damper, all original except the top skin, looks/sounds amazing.
A Project One Snare sold on Reverb within the last 4 months for $789 CAD + 100 Shipping. https://reverb.com/ca/item/89372664-vintage-1980-s-premier-6-5x14-project-one-snare-drum-in-cherry-gloss
