Brass nickel-plated 12 fret classic 1930s design.
Spun aluminium cone, three-on-a-strip open tuners, nickel plated body with 1930s lightning-bolt sandblasted design, mahogany neck, 12 fret join to the body, Blackwood Tek bound fretboard, bone nut, maple bridge. The MM LIGHTNING comes with Michael Messer Newtone Guitar Strings and a pod style case.
The Michael Messer Lightning Resophonic Guitar is a nickel-plated bell brass body, 1930’s style 12-fret single cone resonator guitar, intended to provide the tone and vibe of a vintage blues guitar, and it does this well. You get the vintage look and tone, but with modern playability and reliability at an affordable price.
These are great instruments for fingerstyle and bottleneck blues playing. The Michael Messer Lightning has the characteristic attack, projection, resonance and volume of a ‘steel body’ guitar. As expected, it’s bright, but with a warmth and depth that avoid harshness and add a sweetness to the edge. The modern features include an adjustable truss rod.
The Michael Messer Lightning body is decorated with an etched lightning pattern, hence the name. It’s a change from the Hawaiian palm scenes typically found on metal-body guitars.
The line of Michael Messer guitars are built to Messer’s specifications at a new plant in China. This allows Messer to reach its goal of delivering a well built instrument – built in a specific style, to produce a specific tone, but at an affordable price point.
