Achimenes ‘Purple King’ is a cascading, easy to grow tropical houseplant from South America. Some common names for this plant are Resurrection Plant, Cupid’s Bower, or Magic Flower. Achimenes ‘Purple King’ is a lovely tailing plant with cascading blooms which appear on short stems that grow from the leaf axils. The tubular rich purple flowers grow up to 2 inches long and flare out into 5-petaled trumpets up to 3” wide. Each flower lasts just a few days, but the plant blooms continuously for several months.

Deep green, velvety leaves are carried in pairs and can grow up to 3” long with sawtoothed edges. The long stems cascade over the edge of the pot. The trailing blooms are a beautiful sight, when the cascading plant is displayed on a plant stand, It makes a stunning accent to any brightly lit room.
Care:
-This plant likes the same conditions as African Violets: evenly moist (but not wet) soil during the growing season.
-Bright, indirect light; filtered light from a south or west facing window is ideal. Artificial light also works well.
-It likes average room temperatures 18 to 24 degrees, but tolerates temperatures as low as 12 degrees.
-Pinch the stem tips when they are about 3” long to promote branching, so you get a fuller plant.
-When flowering tapers off in fall, reduce watering and allow the plant to die back naturally. Cut off brown, withered stems at soil level with sharp pruners - don’t pull them off because that may damage the rhizomes. The plant goes dormant during the winter. Stop watering it at that time. It will start to show new growth in late winter, at which time, you should start to water it again. Hence, the name Resurrection Plant.
-Achimenes grows from little rhizomes that look like tiny pine cones. These multiply rapidly and can be separated and planted 1” deep when new growth starts in late winter, in order to generate more pots of the plant.
No delivery possible; must pick up Warden/Sheppard area of Scarborough
